STREAM FOR THE HEART FOUNDATION

In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.

Every 60 seconds, more than 1 person dies of a heart disease related event.

Approximately 2,000 Americans die every single day from heart disease.

Funding from The Heart Foundation provided by generous donors has contributed to the following accomplishments:

The development of two vaccines for atherosclerosis- and active vaccine (still in the pre-clinical trial stage) and a passive vaccine (currently completing a phase 2 clinical trial with results expected in early 2023).

A better understanding of the role of the immune system in plaque buildup in the arteries and of key genes in atherosclerosis and inflammation.

Testing which ultimately led to FDA approval of the novel cholesterol-lowering drugs Lomatipide, Repatha, Praluent, and Evinacumab to lower LDL cholesterol for statin-intolerant or statin-insufficient patients.

Providing the initial support and proof of funding required for the P.K. Shah Laboratory at Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai to secure 7 highly-competitive multi-year grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
