MedlinePlus is the National Institutes of Health’s website. It is produced by the National Library of Medicine and offers free, up-to-date, easily understandable information on diseases, conditions, wellness issues, the latest treatments, and drugs and supplements. You can look up terms, view medical videos or illustrations, obtain the latest medical research on a topic or find out about clinical trials on a disease or condition.

CARDIOSTART INTERNATIONAL

Using a global network of volunteer effort and the collective skills of experts in healthcare, CardioStart International provides free heart surgery and associated medical care to children and adults living in underserved regions of the world, irrespective of political position or religious creed.

GIFT OF LIFE INTERNATIONAL

Gift of Life International is a Rotarian-based organization that provides hope to children with heart disease from developing countries, regardless of their gender, creed, or national origin, by supporting autonomous Gift of Life programs in an effort to care for these children in need and to coordinate the development of sustainable pediatric cardiac surgery, catheterization and aftercare programs in select countries through the empowerment of local healthcare professionals.

SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST FOUNDATION

The mission of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Foundation is to prevent death and disability from sudden cardiac arrest, increase awareness of sudden cardiac arrest, and influence attitudinal and behavioral changes that will reduce mortality and morbidity from SCA. Their goal is to increase the rate of bystander CPR in cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest from 30% to 50% and increase the rate of bystander use of AEDs in cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest from <5% to 10%.

CALIFORNIA HEALTH & LONGEVITY INSTITUTE

Programs at California Health & Longevity Institute revolutionize healthy living by promoting individual well-being, by inspiring wellness-focused employees and by encouraging a corporate culture of health. They also offer a Lifestyle Blog with up-to-date articles and information on a variety of health and well-being topics, such as medicine, nutrition, fitness, life balance and spa. The contributors are all accomplished experts in their fields and include physicians of Western and Eastern medicine, registered dietitians, exercise specialists, lifestyle consultants and spa professionals, all of whom share the belief that having current information is an integral part of any health and wellness program.

CARDIOSMART – AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY

CardioSmart is a patient education site of the American College of Cardiology. Their mission is to engage, inform, and empower patients to better prepare them for participation in their own care.

CEDARS-SINAI WOMEN’S HEART CENTER

Cedars-Sinai’s Women’s Heart Center provides risk assessment, diagnosis and heart disease care. The center is designed to help women reduce their chances of heart disease through a preventive approach, including state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic testing.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency with chapters throughout the United States whose mission is: “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” The website includes a tool to search for your local chapter based on your zip code.

WORLD HEART FEDERATION

The World Heart Federation is a nongovernmental organization committed to uniting its members and leading the global fight against heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low-and middle-income countries. They pursue this mission via a united community of almost 200 member organizations that bring together the strength of medical societies and foundations from more than 100 countries.

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S HEART FOUNDATION

The mission of the International Children’s Heart Foundation (ICHF) is to bring the skills, technology and knowledge to cure and care for children with congenital heart disease to developing countries. ICHF does this regardless of country of origin, race, religion or gender.

THE DAVID FOSTER FOUNDATION

The David Foster Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants.

CARINGBRIDGE.ORG

CaringBridge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free websites that connect family and friends during a serious health event, care and recovery. A CaringBridge website is personal, private and available 24/7. It helps ease the burden of keeping family and friends informed. The websites are easy to create and use. Authors add health updates and photos to share their story while visitors leave messages of love and support in the guestbook.

UNITED NETWORK FOR ORGAN SHARING

United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is the private, non-profit organization that manages the nation’s organ transplant system under contract with the federal government. Their mission is to advance organ availability and transplantation by uniting and supporting communities for the benefit of patients through education, technology and policy development.
